Walnut Grove Cemetery

Name: Walnut Grove Cemetery
Location: 1006 Locust
Built: Late 1880's
Developed in the late 1880's the Walnut Grove Cemetery is a private, Park like establishment with more than 8,000 tombs. The number buried exceeds the population of Boonville. This cemetery is a family cemetery from which stones would be removed from other cemeteries in town and placed in Walnut Grove.
Modern roads fallow a path of the past, present, and future, allowing you to watch as time stops beneath the walnut trees and you listen to the silence and whisper of the wind.
The Cemetery was purchased in 1852 when William Myers sold it to three families who wanted to enjoy the presence of the four acre grove of walnuts. When the three families made the cemetery available to adjoining property owners and their families, the owners decided it would be a perfect permanent resting place for the community. It is named for the Walnut Grove.
