one of the President's top three electronic government initiatives. FEMA

Are your parents due more benefits?
About 20% of baby boomers are currently contributing money to
their parents' care, reports the Pew Research Center. Good news: Your
elderly parents may be entitled to a host of government and private
benefits, like home health care, in addition to tax relief and lower
energy bills. Many services are open to low- and middle income families.
To see what benefits your parents may be entitled to, check out both of
these websites:

Benefitscheckup.org --
This comprehensive site is easy to use. But to fill out the online
work sheets (called "personalized reports"), know your parents'
employment history, income and assets, names of medications and
current expenses. |
 |
Govbenefits.gov -- This website lets you search for
eligibility for government services and provides contact information
for programs.
|
|
 | usgovsearch
-- The federal government Internet search engine that allows
researchers and others to find documents scattered across more
than 20,000 federal Web sites. The fee-based
Gov.search service, developed by the Commerce Department's National
Technical Information Service and Northern Light Technology,
allows for the simultaneous search of about 3.8 million Web pages, three
million government research documents, and several million articles
collected from commercial publishers. The technology scans and
tags every word on every Web page, creating more relevant searching. The
service has a heavier focus on scientific and technical information than
any of the government's free search engines, such as the Library
of Congress' Thomas service. The service costs $15 for a one-day
pass, or $30 for monthly access, plus small fees for access to certain
documents. |
