Born and raised in Los Angeles, he settled in
the St. Louis area after WWII. He took a crash course in commercial art under the GI bill
and advanced, through several ad agencies, from "gofer" to layout artist to art
director. In 1958 he went "free-lancing" specializing in layout and design,
working mostly with corporate ad managers. After his first trip to Mexico, he was inspired
to start painting using acrylics. He exhibited locally and sold several works through the
Christopher Gallery. He was a member of the St. Louis Art Directors Club and was president
of the Club during the '70s. In the '80s, he began teaching design, part-time, at
Florissant Valley Community College. He and his wife retired 1988, where they rehabbed an old country church south of Boonville. Working mostly in oils, his paintings reflect his many years as a designer. He has been featured as the Visual Artist at the Missouri River Festival of the Arts and was last exhibited in the "Brush with History" at th Ashby-Hodge Gallery in Fayette. |
