Vine St.
This building was originally built as a church for the
First Baptist Church of Jesus Christ in Boonville.
In appearance it was a 1 ½ story Greek Revival structure containing two
front façade entrances on a porch having 6 steps.
The building has also housed the Four Square Gospel Church, Turner Hall,
Geiger Furniture Store, and the offices of the Gygr-Gas Company. Today it has been restored as Turner Hall and is used for
community functions, weddings and other parties. Built in 1847, a large brick one-story section was added
before 1900. By 1910 the brick
one-story side wings were added and a one-story brick section to the rear which
was used as a stage. The primary façade
has a frame pent roofed addition over the original stoop and a concrete block
foundation to the east. The east
and west reflect the semi-circular windows with soldier course.
The structure’s brickwork has been cleaned. Significant both architecturally and historically on a local
level, this structure is important as an early church and cultural hall.
