213 E. Spring
This two story brick home
was built in the 1860's by Florenz Pieper,
a stone mason. It remained in the
Pieper family until the 1960's. The
vernacular style with Missouri German affinities
includes an added one-story front porch on the south.
There are end chimneys on the east and west. Additions extending to the north include a gabled two-story brick ell and a clapboarded pent
addition which sits on a concrete foundation to the west bay.
This area has enclosed porches. To
the north are new frame garages.
There is a wine cellar in the basement.
The residence faces south onto East Spring and sits on an embankment
with a beautiful cut and laid stone reinforcing wall to the south and east. To the north is an alley and a gravel parking area.
The residence is a
duplex at this time.
