Mission Statement
"...to protect the lives and property of all residents when major disasters threaten public safety in any city, county or region of Cooper County."
Cooper Co EOC responds to two types of disasters - natural and manmade. Natural disasters are major snow and/or ice storms, floods, tornadoes, and/or severe weather. Manmade disasters, also known as technological emergencies, may include hazardous material incidents, nuclear power plant accidents and other radiological hazards. EOC is also responsible for developing a County Emergency Operations Plan which coordinates the actions of Local Government Departments and Agencies in the event of any emergency requiring use of County resources and personnel.
How to Disinfect Drinking Water
When should drinking water be disinfected:
if your community has been issued a boil water advisory
you are using water directly from a stream, lake or shallow well
if a natural or manmade disaster has disrupted your community water supply
Boiling: Boiling is the best way to kill bacteria, viruses and parasites. A full boil for at least one minute is recommended. At elevations over 2,000 meters you should boil water for at least two minutes to disinfect it.
To remove the flat taste of boiled water, leave the boiled water in a clean covered container for a few hours or pour the cooled boiled water back and forth from one clean container to another.
