DECEMBER 2008
Three Cooper County bridge/overpass
structures are part of the 800-bridge program per MoDOT officials.
These structures will be repaired starting
as early as December 2008. They
include structures spanning I-70 at Highway 5, Rte 179 and Rte 135.
The Route B overpass over I-70 is slated for
total new construction and will be completed in phase II at a later date.
Two sites on county streams were approved
for gravel excavation by the Corp of Engineers. These sites are on Smiley
Creek in south county and the Lamine River in the western part of the county
near the North Bridge area. To
date approximately 2100 tons have been removed from the Smiley Creek site.
The Lamine River site will begin in early 2009 weather permitting.
Now that winter weather has arrived, many
county residents have questions about snow/ice removal on county roads.
The policy the county has and currently operates under may be viewed
on the Mo-River.Net website by clicking on government and going to the snow
removal policy.
On a personal note, it has been my pleasure
to serve the residents of the Eastern District of Cooper County the past 4
years.
The writing of the “Cooper County
Highlights” has been my attempt at keeping residents informed of some of the
happenings in county government.
Thank you for reading.
Bill Embry, Eastern District Commissioner
MAY
2008
The
Cooper County Commission has completed and forwarded applications to the
U.S. Army Corp of Engineers for the excavation of gravel. Three streams
sites in the county have been selected for removal of gravel, which will b
used on county roads.
The
Commission is now waiting to receive approval on these sites which is
expected to occur around June 1st, with work to begin mid summer.
Due to
harsh weather conditions during the past winter, and now excessive spring
rains roadwork is behind schedule.
As weather conditions improve work on roads will be increased.
County
engineers are finalizing plans for installation of 9 box culverts and 6
culvert pipes at various sites throughout the county.
Selection of contractor(s) by bidding process will occur in early
June with work to start soon after.
If you
have questions or concerns you may call the Cooper County Commission on
Monday or Thursday at (660) 882-2228.
March 20, 2008
On Tuesday, April 8th, the voters of Cooper County will have the opportunity to once again approve a very important Road & Bridge improvement measure.
Proposition 1 reads as follows:
Shall the County of Cooper continue a county-wide sales tax at the rate of one-half (1/2) of one (1) percent, for a period of four years, ending December 31, 2012, to be used for the construction of County road system improvements including new bridges and culverts.
This measure has funded 16 new span bridges, 121 concrete box culverts, 73 pipe installations and 16 low water crossing since its approval by voters in 1997.
To continue with needed improvements such as those listed above, your vote of "YES" will allow these improvements to continue for another 4 years.
For additional information, please feel free to contact the Cooper County Commission on Monday or Thursdays at the Cooper County Courthouse or call (660) 882-2228. This may also be viewed along with other County information at http://www.mo-river.net.
