On Tuesday, April 8th, the voters of Cooper County will have the opportunity to once again approve a very important Road & Bridge improvement measure.
Proposition 1 reads as follows:
Shall the County of Cooper continue a county-wide sales tax at the rate of one-half (1/2) of one (1) percent, for a period of four years, ending December 31, 2012, to be used for the construction of County road system improvements including new bridges and culverts
.This measure has funded 16 new span bridges, 121 concrete box culverts, 73 pipe installations and 16 low water crossing since its approval by voters in 1997.
To continue with needed improvements such as those listed above, your vote of "YES" will allow these improvements to continue for another 4 years.

The installation of new culverts was completed at the end of November. A
total of 49 new culverts were installed across the county during 2007 by the
Road & Bridge Department. This was an increase of 14 culverts over 2006.
An additional 10 culverts and 2 low water crossings were repaired or
re-built by contractors based on their bids to the county for such work.
To date over 104 miles of various county roads have received 200 tons of
rock per mile. An additional 15 miles is to receive gravel as weather
permits.
Winter has arrived. County crews have been busy with clearing of roads of
ice, sleet and tree limbs. It is a frustrating time for all who need to
travel over various roads during these extremely adverse weather
conditions. It is likewise frustrating for those who must work to clear
these roads. Machinery and equipment never seem to work like they should
during these extreme conditions. We appreciate your patience during these
times and will work to get roads cleared as soon as possible.
If you have need to call concerning road conditions, please call
660-882-8215. This number is for the Cooper County Road & Bridge
maintenance building on Hwy 5 near Boonville. You may talk to a Road &
Bridge employee or please leave a message.
The Cooper County Commission wishes to extend a very joyous and happy
holiday season to each of you.
You may contact the Commission at the Courthouse on Monday or Thursday 9:00
a.m. - 5:00 p.m. at 660-882-2228.

A new rotary arm mower has been purchased and is now being put on the John Deere tractor purchased last year. Roadside brush will be cut and trimmed back starting this fall. With a mild winter it is hoped that this operation will continue throughout he winter months.
A contract was bid and awarded for the spreading of 104 miles of county roads. The contract called for 200 tons of 1" road rock to be spread per mile. This project is near 50% completed at this time.

Sealed bids are being received for construction projects within Cooper County. Two contracts will be awarded. Contract 1 calls for the installation of 9 pipe culverts and 1 pipe extension. Contract 2 calls for 3 concrete box culverts and 3 crossing repairs. The two contracts will be awarded in July, with work to begin soon at various locations throughout the county.
The Commission received a letter from the Missouri Department of Conservation giving approval to the County for the spreading of 1" road rock in its 4 access areas. These areas include the Prairie Home Wildlife area, Swinging Bridge Access, Lamine River Access and Overton Bottoms area. 17.8 miles of roads will receive 200 tons per mile with a cost not to exceed $24,742.00. The conservation department purchases rock and the County’s Road & Bridge crews will apply.
If you would like additional information about these projects or others please call the Cooper County Commission on Monday & Thursday at (660-882-2228).

The Cooper County Commission has just received an order of new Cooper County Plat Books. The latest printing of these books may be purchased from the Commission for $20.00. Wall maps may also be purchased in approximately 2 weeks. You may stop by the Commission office or the County Clerk’s office to pick them up.
Road & Bridge crews are busy with hauling of rock and are starting to blade roads after a very long winter. Most of the counties 560 miles of roads came thru the snow and ice in reasonably good shape. Road & Bridge crews are also starting to install metal culverts on county roads, and for people needing culverts at property entrances. If you need a culvert installed please let the Commission know and we will set up a time. Installation is free with property owners providing the culverts and enough rock for proper coverage.
County road signs have also taken a hit this winter. Some signs were damaged as a result of the weather, but many by acts of vandalism. Again, a Road & Bridge crew employee has begun traveling the County replacing these signs.
