WAYNE LAMMERS

by Wayne Lammers

I was born and raised in Boonville.  My parents are Gilbert and the late Edna Lammers.  I come from a large Catholic family of 9 children.  We all attended SS. Peter and Paul Church and School.  I furthered my education at CMSU in Warrensburg, with many classes at State Fair College in Sedalia and University of Missouri in Columbia.  Thirty years ago I married Sharon Vanderhoof and we have 3 children, Angie, Tracey and Josh.

My work experience began, like the rest of my brothers and sisters, by working for my father at his feed store, Summers Elevator, and then Lammers Elevator Co.  I carried papers for the Boonville Daily News for a couple of years, and worked for Steven's TV for 9 years as a repairman and salesman. From 1972 to 1994, I was manager and then owner of Lammers Elevator Co.  After the flood of 1993, I sold Lammers Elevator and became the producer and owner of Lammers Video Productions.  Since then I produced videos that have been sold nationally and Internationally.  I enjoy creating video documentaries of our local history from steamboats to bridges to the many floods.  During the Floods of 1993 and 1995, the US Army Corps of Engineers hired me as a video and photographic consultant.  Since then I have seen my video footage in many of the 1993 and 1995 flood documentaries on Cable channels A&E and Discovery.

My community and civic service began when I became a member of the Boonville Area Jaycees.  I then was elected as president of the SS.Peter and Paul PTA. I've been an active member and board member of the Boonville Area Chamber of Commerce and served on many functions and committees. I was instrumental in acquiring the Katy Caboose #134 from the Union Pacific RR back in 1992, for the city of Boonville.  I have enjoyed working on the many civic committees, including the Katy Depot Restoration Fund and the Ag Appreciation Banquets since its beginning.  For the past 2 years I have been president of The Boonslick Historical Society.  With the help of many state and local officials and numerous city and county historical clubs, I was able to persuade the Missouri Dept of Transportation to officially name our new highway bridge, "The Boonslick Bridge"

In December of 1997 Mayor Bud Kempf appointed me councilman of the 3rd Ward, with approval of the city council.  I ran unopposed for the seat the following April.   Since then I have been learning the ropes of city government.  I have attended 3 of the Missouri Municipal League conferences (in Jefferson City, Kansas City and St. Louis) My part in serving the city of Boonville has been a learning experience.

In the past few years, I have enjoyed the rewards of photography.  My mother, Edna Lammers, taught me how to use her old Kodak box camera when I was about 8 years old.   She had an eye for taking fine photos.  Recently, I have taken up night photography, which I find very challenging.  During the 1999 Festival of Leaves I won "Best of Show" at the Art Show sponsored by The Friends of Historical Boonville held at the Boonslick Bank.  I have produced many farm and railroad videos that have been sold all over the world.  I also enjoy creating wedding and family videos for the people of the Boonslick area.
