South Howard County/Outdoor Arts Special Meeting

For September 12, 2011, held in New Franklin, MO

South Howard County/Outdoor Arts Committee met September 12, 2011, at 5:00 p.m. in New Franklin, MO, at the South Howard County Historical Society Building.

Present:  Those present were Sue Thompson, Jacque Schaller, Marty Perry, Ray Glendenning, Doris Markland, and Marilyn Rogers.

Sue Thompson, committee chairperson, called the meeting to order.  The secretary was absent at the last meeting and no minutes were available.  The treasurer was not in attendance and no report was given.

Update:  Sue reported that the last bid from the engineers was $42,800.  She is in hopes that this figure can be reduced.  Sue is planning on attending the next City Council meeting with MoDot on Monday, September 19, 2011, 1:30 p.m.

Santa Fe Trail Days fundraising ideas were discussed.  It was decided not to have an Italian sausage booth.  Other possible ideas were discussed but the decision was made not to participate this year.  Sue reported that she had reserved a spot on the sidewalk outside of the Society building and will set up a table on Saturday to receive monument donations.

Fundraising:  Doris reported that she updated the old Society member list to include 70-80 persons.  Of this list, with the addition of other names, she created mailing labels totaling about 150 names for flyers to be mailed.  Marty had also created return address labels.  Business and individuals were discussed as possible contributors to the monument fund.  Flyers were assembled by the members present with these labels and were mailed out the next day, September 13th.

Dedication Ceremony:  Nothing has been done so far for the ceremony, which is being planned for September 1, 2012.  Marilyn and Dorothy Whitten are co-chairpersons of this committee.

New Business:  There was no new business discussed.
